Bearcat Banter: Wrap things up

It was a full week, and the Bearcats came out of it with three of the six points available to them.

In Pictou County, Thursday, the Bearcats and Crushers scored in each period en route to an OT session. The Crushers got the next goal and with it, the win.

That was Truro’s second OT loss of the season; however, the Bearcats have a pair of OT wins to their credit. Things seem to balance out.

The Bearcat – Mariner game was a close one. Truro clearly wanted a better showing than one on December 1st.

They got it, but not the win. The Yarmouth snipers did their thing when the opportunities were there in the final period.

This was the fourth meeting between the Bearcats and Mariners. Yarmouth has won three of them, with a significant difference in goals for and against.

Saturday, the Bearcats got back on track, pulling off a clean win over the South Shore Lumberjacks. That was Truro’s third win this month against the Lumberjacks, and fourth in as many games for the season.

At the end of the day, stats show the Bearcats’ Special Teams performed well, allowing a pair of Powerplay goals and picking up one over the three games.

Stats also indicate the Bearcats were outshot in each of the three games. They don’t all translate into great scoring opportunities, but the Bearcat goalies did their job enhancing the chance to win.

Then, again, there’s no such thing as a bad shot on net. Put it on the net, good things can happen.

The Bearcats enter this week as they ended last, in fourth spot, playing .500 hockey. They’re holding their own entering the last week of play before the Christmas Break.

Friday, they’re off to Yarmouth. It should be interesting. The Bearcats held them accountable physically in the last outing, even in a losing cause.

Saturday, the Valley Wildcats are in town to complete Truro’s schedule before start-up in January. The Wildcats sit mere points ahead of Truro in the standings, even though the Bearcats have won two of three against them.

That game will mark the mid-point of the Bearcat season — Report card time.
