It appeared the Truro Bearcats ate all their cookies Friday night, saving none for the trip to Yarmuth on Saturday.
At the RECC, the Bearcats overcame a one-goal deficit to score four in the second and another three in the third period en route to a 7-4 win over the first-place Mariners.
It was an entertaining game showing that when the Bearcats are on top of their forecheck game, good things can happen.
For the rookie contingent on the Bearcat roster, it was a great night. Two of them scored their first MHL goals.
It was also a good outing for the Special team units, picking up a pair of powerplay goals and a couple of those back-breaking shorthanded goals.
The same couldn’t be said for the return trip to Yarmouth, where the Mariners shutout the Bearcats 5-0.
The Mariners scored in each period with no Bearcat replies. The Bearcats battled but couldn’t get on the board.
The Bearcats enter this week in the Division’s fourth spot, playing .500 hockey. They also enter the week gearing up for a demanding segment of their schedule.
The Bearcats will be in Pictou County Thursday; Friday they are at home to face the Summerside Capital; then off to Amherst, Saturday, to face the Ramblers. For good measure, let’s throw in the December 1st date when the Mariners return to Truro.
The MHL is holding a special week of games focusing on Indigenous recognition and reconciliation between November 24th and December 5th. Each team will host a game through that period, Truro’s being the Summerside game, and Amherst’s Saturday with the Bearcats as visitors.
The specially designed jerseys, emblazoned with the message “Every Child Matters” will be auctioned off at the conclusion of this schedule. This is a unique way to show support of that message.
Summerside is first overall in the MHL. This will be Bearcat fans only opportunity to view the Capitals in regular season play.
On December 1st, the Bearcat – Mariner game is the stage for the Annual Teddy Bear Toss in support of the Christmas Index.
The teams, games, and community at large deserve support.
