Truro adds goalie, Welk and defenseman, Zizmor from Fredericton

The Truro Bearcats have announced that they have acquired 17 year old goalie, Mavric Welk and 18 year old defenseman, Ezra Zizmor from the Fredericton Red Wings in exchange for 20 year old goalie, Yacine Chemrouk.

Welk, from Golden Lake, Ontario started the season with the Moncton Wildcats of the QMJHL as a free agent before being sent down to Fredericton in October. In 9 appearances with the Red Wings, he had a record of 3-5-1 including a 3.81 goals against average and .903 save percentage. In the 2022-23 season, he played with the EOJHL’s Richmond Royals totalling an 11-3 record which included a 3.08 goals against average and .913 save percentage.

Zizmor, from New York, New York appeared in 15 games in Fredericton without registering a point after coming in as a free agent in the preseason. He spent the 2022-23 season with the North Jersey Avalanche U18 AAA team registering 10 points in 16 games with the club, leading all defensemen.

Chemrouk, from Montreal, Quebec was acquired from Lindsay(OJHL) in the offseason and had a stellar start with the Bearcats with an 8-5-1 record in 16 appearances to go with a 3.61 goals against average and .901 save percentage. His play led him to being selected as one of the goalies for Team MHL South at the Eastern Canada Cup where he appeared in 2 games with a 1-1 record.

This trade now leaves Truro with 7 of 8 20 year old spots occupied after the addition of Dylan Chisholm this morning.
