Bearcat Banter: Time Out

The Truro Bearcats enter The Christmas Break on a bit of a skid, losing both games last weekend.

Against the Pictou County Weeks Crushers the Bearcats had their opportunities in the opening period but were unable to convert.

The Crushers upped their game and from this corner, outworked the hometown Bearcats the rest of the way en route to the shutout win.

The visitors were soundly beaten in New Glasgow the night before. They obviously weren’t prepared to allow that to happen Friday.

Saturday, the Amherst Ramblers took an early lead and rode it to a 3-2 home win.

In this one, the Bearcats again had their chances, but as in the previous night were not able to find the back of the net.

Failure to finish and penalties are a bad combination, however, both can be addressed.

The Bearcats are off to their Christmas Break. Most have returned to their home for some R and R.

Their Christmas Schedule has been extended due to restrictions in place effective, December 21st.

As made public last Friday, sports practices and training, and arts and culture rehearsals, will be limited to 25 participants without physical distancing but games, tournaments, and performances will not be permitted.

These restrictions will be in place until January 10th. These restrictions apply to Nova Scotia.

As a result, a number of Bearcat games will be postponed: January 2nd Pictou County at Truro, January 8th Amherst at Truro, January 9th Valley at Truro.

It will be interesting to watch how teams respond to rosters and deadlines going forward this hockey season. That, too, may be quite different.

Everyone is reminded to keep their social circles small and follow public health measures —- have a safe Christmas season.
