Bearcat Banter: Break Time

A week ago, concern was raised about the unofficial game plan of falling behind early, then exploding for a whack of goals enroute to a win.

Certainly that wasn’t a good habit, and most likely one addressed before entering last week’s games.

Wednesday, in Amherst, the Bearcats got out of the gate quickly scoring four unanswered first period goals leading to a 6-2 win.

They played with the lead throughout, thus avoiding the stress and strain of chasing the game and playing catch-up.  That’s a good thing.

The Bearcats have won four of the five meetings with the Ramblers, who have been taking it on the chin of late.

Sunday, in Valley, the Bearcats followed a similar script, controlling the opening period, holding back a strong Wildcat push back in the second, then solidifying the 6-3 win with a pair of goals in the final period.

The Bearcat dominance over the Wildcats has extended to five wins in the six meetings, with two more games to come in January.

The Bearcats concluded their four-game road run with three wins and a loss, starting this week third in the Eastlink South with 31 points and playing just over .500 hockey.

Pictou County and Amherst are just two points back, with full promise the battle for positions will continue to rage well into the New Year.

Truro’s schedule wraps up Monday when they host the Yarmouth Mariners, a club which has defeated Truro in their three previous meetings.

The Bearcats return to action in the New Year in Pictou County on January 4.  Their next home game is scheduled for Wednesday January 10 against Yarmouth.

In the meantime, players return to their homes for some R-and R, then return before the New Year to skate off some rust for what lies ahead.

From all players and management, have a safe and happy holiday season.

The Boston Pizza Bearcat Player-of-the-Week (ending Dec.17) was Lucas Canning who scored a pair in Amherst and picked up another, along with an assist in Valley – sure beats hitting the goal posts.
