Bearcat Bytes: Sonny Kabatay

#10 Sonny Kabatay
19-year-old Forward
Sydney, NS
5’10”, 165 lbs

Bearcat-of-the-Week honours went to first-year forward, Sonny Kabatay. He played strong in all three games with his 200-foot effort. He picked up goals in the Pictou County and Valley matchups but it was his work ethic that was most noticeable.

He came up through the Joneljim Cougars Major Bantams where, over a two-year period, picked up 87 points in 63 games, while being a First Team All-Star in the 2016-2017 season based on Most Assists (35), Most Points (60) and named the NSMBHL Top Forward. Next up were two seasons at the U18 level and one with the Cape Breton Tradesmen and a second with the Dartmouth Major Midgets, again scoring at a prolific rate. The 2018 draft choice of the Valley Wildcats and Halifax Mooseheads made his junior debut playing 53 Moosehead games in the 2019-2020 season. Last year’s covid season saw him spend time with Halifax and Valley. In his 10 Bearcat games to date, he’s picked up 5 goals and 2 assists.
