Bearcat-of-the-Week honours went to second year forward, Carson Lanceleve. He picked up an assist on Truro’s lone goal Saturday, in the teams 2–1 Shootout win over Miramichi. That gives him 11 for the season and further confirms that getting to the puck quickly can lead to good things and earns you time on the powerplay.
He got his hockey start in the South Colchester Association before the shift to Truro and the chance to play at the AAA level. A high scorer at the peewee level, he experienced a Provincial Championship and exposure at Atlantics. His game grew further in his two seasons with the Truro Major Bantam Bearcats.
Next up was a three year stint with the Weeks Midgets where he accumulated 107 points over 106 games. He sits fourth in career points with the Weeks club, first, however, with 77 assists. A 2017 Territorial pick, he enjoyed a strong rookie Bearcat season last year, finishing with 9 goals and 18 assists. A strong skater, playing a fast game while seeing the ice well constitutes a real asset. He’s always near the puck, making him a threat each time out.
Last week, the Bearcats were saddened with the death of a valued volunteer. John Fitzgerald quietly selected Game Stars for over a decade and was part of All-Star Selection Committees during the 2015 Fred Page Cup Tournament hosted by Truro. This dedication and support was greatly appreciated.
