Bearcat-of-the-Week honours went to Bearcat newcomer, Spencer Blackwell. He picked up his first MHL goal in Friday’s 3-2 loss in Yarmouth. His tally, followed by G Blackmore’s first of the year gave Truro an early lead in the contest. He got his hockey start in the South Central AAA Association in Halton, ON. After a season of Midget Minor, he moved on to Prep School Hockey at Everest Academy in Thornhill, leading the team in scoring, and getting a taste of junior hokey with the Aurora Tigers (OJHL). Next up was a season with the Thorold Blackhawks in the tough Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League. He scored 15 and assisted 25 others in his 39 games played. He spent all of last year with the Quebec Remparts (QMJHL). The Bearcats acquired his playing rights in the June Supplementary Draft. He brings to the team speed, while playing with an edge. He’s settling in well in the MHL and recognizes Truro as a good stop.
