Three games in three nights is never easy.
Throw in a trip to Edmundston, with a stopover in Grand Falls, it then becomes just plain difficult and draining.
The Bearcats hosted Yarmouth Saturday to kick things off. The teams traded goals in the opening period but the Bearcats certainly didn’t help themselves picking up three penalties in that period.
The Mariners scored a goal in each of the final two periods to claim the 3-1 win, their fourth over Truro in seven meetings.
The Bearcats had their chances, especially in the third, but were unable to capitalize. The teams have their final meeting in March, in Yarmouth.
Before the sun was up Sunday, the Bearcats were off to Edmundston. They got off the bus ready to play.
A natural hat trick and superlative goaltending had them take a one goal lead into the final period, only to see the Blizzard tie it up.
It took a shootout to settle this one, unfortunately it went in the Blizzard favour.
On Monday, in another afternoon game, the Bearcats scored three in the second period and never relinquished the lead en route to a well deserved 5-3 win over the Grand Falls Rapid.
The Bearcats played solid hockey in both road wins, utilizing strong offensive play and receiving excellent goaltending. Scoring a pair of powerplay goals in each game helped, as well.
The three points left the team tied with Yarmouth, with 53 points apiece, followed by Amherst (51) and Pictou County (49).
So, the battle for the coveted playoff spots continues. Truro has seven games remaining including games against Amherst and Pictou County at home, and Yarmouth on the road.
The Miramichi Timberwolves are at the RECC Wednesday (Feb. 21). That team defeated the Bearcats in October and already has clinched a playoff spot in the Northern Division.
Monday (Feb. 26), the Bearcats host the Campbellton Tigers. Truro holds an October OT win over the Tigers.
The makeup game against Amherst has been scheduled for Wednesday, February 28 at the RECC.
The Boston Pizza Bearcat Player-of-the-Week (ending February 19) was Lucas Canning who picked up three goals and three assists in the two road games.
