Bearcat Banter: Ten Games, Ten Wins

There is no question that this November is a month to remember, not just for the current campaign.

The schedule saw the Bearcats play ten games, eight of which were on the road.  They won them all.

Thursday, in Summerside, the short-staffed Bearcats picked up a character win where three U18 call-ups stepped in, and the regulars stepped up to earn the 2-1 SO victory.

Rylan Sutherland opened the scoring early in the third, then the Capitals tied it up at the mid-point.  OT solved nothing, but Eli Baillargeon did in the Shootout.  That was Truro’s second win in three meetings with the Capitals.

Saturday in Edmundston, Truro scored four unanswered in the first period and never looked back in the convincing 7-2 win.

Captain Welsh and Nathan Curson each picked up a pair of goals to lead the way and quiet the huge crowd.  Rookie, Austin Hoyt, was a major contributor, as well, with a goal and an assist.

In Grand Falls, Sunday afternoon, the Bearcats finished their November schedule with a 3-1 win over the Rapids.  Matthew Bolduc, Jake Todd and Ben Lindsay (EN) accounted for Truro’s scoring.

The Bearcats entered the second half of their schedule with Sunday’s game.  They’ve established their identity based on tenacious forecheck, sticking to the script and forcing teams to play their game.  It’s a great position to be in at this stage of the season.

Coming into this week the Bearcats and Summerside are tied for first in the South with 37 points, tops in the MHL.  Behind them are Amherst (30), Pictou County (29), Yarmouth (25) and Valley (12).

Truro has seven games slated for December, with five of them at home.  It kicks off Friday, December 5 when the Miramichi Timberwolves are in town.  It’s also Touque Toss Night.

Prior to the game, the Bearcats will honour and celebrate Coach Shawn Evans’ legacy as Bearcat coach 2002 through to 2023.  He led the team to four MHL Titles, a Fred Page Cup Crown and was named Coach-of-the-Year three times.

Saturday, the Bearcats are off to Amherst to face the Ramblers for their fourth meeting.
