Bearcat Banter: Showtime Approaching

The Countdown is now on.

Come Sunday, August 28th, the Truro Junior Bearcats and most of the other MHL franchises will have opened Training Camp in preparation for the 2022-2023 season.

For the Bearcat hopeful, things will kick off with the Fitness Component beginning that day at 1:30 pm at the RECC. This will offer an indication how summer was spent.

It will also be the first time this collection of returning Bearcats, off-season acquisitions, draft picks and invites will gather together for a common purpose.

Later Sunday, they will gather in a social setting to sort out billeting, meet support staff and hear from Management.

Competition for roster spots heats up with the on-ice sessions scheduled for Monday (7:00 pm), Tuesday (8:00 pm), Wednesday (4:00 pm) and Friday (1:00 pm)

Approximately forty players are expected. There will be a few noticeable absentees beyond those who graduated last May.

Forward, Luke Munroe, has opted to play in the BCHL with Langley, Mavrick Goyer has moved on to play NCAA hockey with Hobart College in Geneva, New York; and Truro native, Tanner Greatorex will study at Queens University in Kingston, Ontario.

The Bearcat organization thanks each for his contribution to the program and wish them well going forward.

For those coming to camp, these departures constitute openings. Decisions will be made in the coming days so it is incumbent on all attending to make those choices hard ones.

Next week, the Bearcats will move on to exhibition play. With a September 15 date to start regular season play, teams will work quickly to get a starting roster ready.
