Bearcat Banter: On The Road Again

Standings in the Eastlink South Division changed little over the last week.

Summerside remains in top spot with 24 points, followed by Truro (19 points), Pictou County (17 points), Amherst and Yarmouth each with 16.  Valley brings up the rear with 10 points.  Every game is important.

The Bearcats spent Halloween in Campbellton.  They played a solid road game, kept things close, outshot the oppositions but came up short.

The Tigers picked up the 3-2 win, their second in the two head-to-head games.

Saturday, the Bearcats kicked off November in fine style defeating the Chaleur Lightning 6-2 in their first meeting of this season.

Truro exploded for five goals in the opening period enroute to the win.  Eli Baillargeon led the way with a hattrick, giving him 12 goals and 5 helpers for the season.  Statistically, he is third in team scoring, behind Jake Todd (7 goals, 15 assists) and Callum Aucoin (12 goals, 9 assists).

At the end of last season, the Fredericton Red Wing franchise relocated to Bathurst and was renamed the Chaleur Lightning.  The move was well received in Bathurst, helping to fill the void left by the Acadie-Bathurst Titans (QMJHL) franchise which relocated in St. John’s.  The Lightning are currently tied with the Edmundston Blizzard in top spot in the Eastlink North Division with 22 points apiece.

Truro’s November schedule is a dandy with just two home games (November 15 vs Edmundston and November 21 vs Grand Falls).  The other seven games remaining are all over the place.  The Hank Snow month has stops in Berwick, Yarmouth, New Glasgow, Miramichi, Summerside, Edmundston and Grand Falls.

This week, the Bearcats are in Berwick for their third meeting with the Wildcats.  The Valley Wildcats were winners in the previous two.  That game is scheduled for Friday, at 7:00 PM.

Saturday, the Bearcats are in Yarmouth for their fourth meeting with the Mariners.  Truro won the previous three (one, a shutout, one in OT, and the third by Shootout).  That game was a 4:00 pm start.

Keep in mind the East Coast Prospects game between the MHL and QJHL.  The game gets underway at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, at the Wellness Centre in New Glasgow. Louca Connolly, Nate Curson, Drew Keiver, Tristan St-Gelais and Coach Greenwood will be there representing the Bearcats.
