Bearcat Banter: Bring On December

The Truro Bearcats hit the road to wrap up their November schedule and returned with a split.

In Pictou County, Thursday, the Bearcats were ready to go with the drop of the puck, scoring three, then duplicating that production in the second period enroute to an impressive 7-4 win.

The Crusher pushback was significant, but the hole was too deep.  In the three outings between the two clubs, the Bearcats have won two.

Special teams played a huge role in the contest.  The teams combined for five powerplay goals in the twelve opportunities presented.  That’s a very high proficiency rate.

Saturday, in Yarmouth, the teams battled back and forth from the outset.  The Mariners won out with a 5-4 win.

This was the Mariners third win in as many starts with the Bearcats.  All verdicts were close.

So, the Bearcats end the month with two wins and seven losses, including the two OT losses to Summerside, but they remain in the thick of it heading into December.

The team has eight games slated for the month, with five of them on the road, due in large part to accommodate the World Junior “A” Challenge.

The Bearcats host the Valley Wildcats this Friday.  Truro has won all three meetings to date and will face them twice more in the Valley before the Christmas Break.

Saturday, Truro is in Summerside to face the Capitals, for the sixth time.  The Capitals have won four of the previous ones, just outscoring the Bearcats by four goals over the five games.

Keep in mind Wednesday, December 6.  The Ramblers will be in town for that Kinsmen Teddy Bear Toss game.  Fans who can’t make that one can drop their Bears off at the Bearcat Kiosk this Friday.

Metalfab, a proud sponsor of the MHL, will be conducting the “12 Jerseys of Christmas”.  Each team will have their jersey signed by each of their players and put up for Auction.  The fundraiser is in support of Canine Therapy for First Responders (CTFFR).  Bids can be made on the Metalfab Facebook page.

This year, for the fourteenth time, the Bearcats will man Kettles in Support of the Salvation Army.  They will be set up at Walmart from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on Tuesdays (December 5, 12 and 19).

The Boston Pizza Bearcat Player-of-the-Week (ending Nov. 26) is Cael MacDonald.  He scored the winner and assisted on two others in the win over the Crushers to complement his 200 foot game.
