The Truro Bearcats opened up the 2026 Centennial Cup on the wrong foot, coming out on the losing end of a 4-1 score at the hands of the Greater Sudbury Cubs.
Lincoln Moore led the way for the Cubs with a pair of goals, including the lone powerplay goal on 12 combined opportunities between the two teams. NOJHL Defenseman of the Year, Spencer Horgan and Noah Kohan rounded out the scoring for the Northern Ontario champions.
Jake Todd scored the Bearcats lone goal on an early candidate for the goal of the tournament. The assistant captain went end to end, splitting the two Sudbury defensemen before slipping the puck through the five hole of goaltender Iain Wintle.
Louca Connolly stopped 26 of 30 shots in the Truro loss while Iain Wintle stopped 23 of 24 for the victors.
The Bearcats went 0 for 6 on the man advantage while Greater Sudbury went 1 for 6.
Truro will be back in action Sunday afternoon at 4:00pm when they face the College Francais de Longueuil, the champions of Quebec.
