Bearcat Leadership Group Announced

The Truro Bearcats are pleased to announce that Liam Welsh has been named the 30th captain in franchise history. Matthew Bolduc, Wyatt Countway and Jake Todd will serve as assistant captains for the upcoming season.

 

Welsh, a 20 year old forward from Halifax is going into his third season as a Bearcat. Since arriving to Truro at 18, Liam has been a constant contributor and leader amongst our organization, embodying what it means to be a Truro Bearcat. Head Coach, Jon Greenwood had this to say on Welsh “Liam plays exactly to our team’s identity; playing a hard, skilled game. He has a lot of experience and we’re confident he’s the right player to lead our team this season.
Bolduc, a 20 year old forward from Val-D’Or is going into his second season as a Bearcat. Despite missing quite some time last season due to injury, Matthew embraced being a member of the Truro Bearcats over his first year in Nova Scotia. His mature approach to the game along with his perseverance over the past season speaks volumes to his character. Coach Greenwood had this to say on Bolduc “
Matthew plays a mature, strong game and has really embraced being a Bearcat since arriving here last season. He plays with a team first mentality at all times. “
Countway, a 19 year old local defenceman from Brookfield is going into his second season as a Bearcat. Wearing a C at both the U16 and U18 levels, Wyatt has demonstrated his leadership qualities every step of his hockey career. He is the next in a long line of local players to wear a letter for the Bearcats. Coach Greenwood had this to say on Countway “Wyatt is a hard nosed defender who takes pride in being a great teammate. He will be counted on to be a presence on our blue line this season.”

Todd, a 20 year old forward from Beaverbank has been a key piece for the Bearcats since arriving at last year’s trade deadline. When the games got bigger, Jake rose to the occasion numerous times to help lead our team. His experience will be crucial for our group this year. Coach Greenwood had this to say on Todd “We love how Jake plays the game with a lot of fire and emotion. He plays a very unselfish game and will be a key contributor for us this season.”
