Bearcat-of-the-Week honours went to defensive newcomer, Jacob Bourchier. He looked solid in his debut Friday, then showed some offensive flair picking up a goal and an assist on Saturday. It was a good start and clearly a meaningful acquisition.
He came up through the British Columbia Major Midget Program spending two seasons with the Okanagan Rockets, quickly establishing a reputation for physical play. He played most of the 2016 – 2017 season in the Kootenay Jr “B” League with the Revelstoke Grizzlies, while seeing some action with the Trail Smoke Eaters (BCHL). Another season with the Grizzlies and some play with the Merritt Centennials followed. Last year he suited up with the Melville Millionaires (SJHL) scoring 5 and assisting on 5 others and picking up 138 penalty minutes. Thirty-eight games into this season with the Millionaires he came East to Truro at the MHL Trade deadline. He brings skill to the Bearcat blueline, as well as a presence in the defensive zone. Opposition will be quick to know when he’s on the ice.
ON TAP
Saturday, Truro travels to Bridgewater for a 7:00 pm game against the South Shore Lumberjacks.
