Back-to-back home wins was just the remedy for a team recovering from the flu.
There certainly was a question about team readiness, considering Wednesday night’s cancellation. For sure the Bearcats were slow out of the gate Saturday (January 25) against the Fredericton Red Wings.
Truro was down two early in the second period but a natural hat trick wiped that out and paved the way to a solid 5-2 win.
Sunday afternoon, the Campbellton Tigers arrived at the RECC ready to play. So, too, did the Bearcats.
From this corner, the Bearcats played one of their more complete games of the season. They took an early lead and never relinquished it.
The Tigers, second in the North Division, were a quick, hard-working team. The Bearcats matched them in every category, except one. Truro scored 5, the Tigers 2.
With 12 games remaining in their regular schedule, the Bearcat goals are to win games and get better for a playoff spot very much in their grasp.
The Bearcats come into this week 6-4-0 over the last ten games, sitting fourth in their Division, two points behind Pictou County and twelve up on Yarmouth.
Wednesday (January 29), the Bearcats wrap up the January schedule at home with a makeup game against Yarmouth.
The Bearcats meet the Mariners at the RECC again on Groundhog Day as well. This game, a prelude to the Long John Festival is PJ/Long John Night. The two meet twice again in February, those games in Yarmouth.
In many ways this is a mini-series. The Bearcats look to widen the gap between them while the Mariners look to close it. This makes for interesting times.
Truro’s schedule has them in Summerside on Saturday, February 1 to face the Capitals. The Bearcats have lost all five to date with the Island Club.
There’s plenty to get settled over the next few weeks. Teams know what they need to do. It’s all about taking care of business.

Bearcat-of-the-Week honours went to Rylan Benner. He backstopped the Bearcats in their 5-2 win over Fredericton last Saturday. It was his first start in Truro, and his first MHL win. The Moncton native joined the team in January from the Thunder Bay North Stars (SIJHL).
