The MHL is now in full swing.
The Truro Bearcats concluded Week One with a pair of home games, losing their opener 4-2 against Campbellton, then winning a 3-2 OT matchup against the Pictou County Crushers.

Bearcat fans in attendance were clearly impressed with Truro’s tenacity by all four lines. An exciting season is in store.
The Bearcat leadership corps led by example, keeping all on the same page as much as possible in the early stage of the season. It was obvious each accepted the added responsibilities handed to them.
Liam Welsh (20, Halifax) is the 2025-2026 team Captain. Following two seasons with the U-18 Halifax McDonalds, the South Shore Lumberjack pick split his rookie season between the Bearcats and Mooseheads. He returned to the Bearcats last year following a full season in Halifax. Now, as a fourth-year junior, he has plenty to offer.
Jake Todd (20, Beaver Bank) came up through the Cole Harbour Wolfpack Program. A 2022 Bearcat draft pick, he spent two full seasons with the Mooseheads before splitting last year between the Mooseheads and Bearcats. He picked up two goals, including Saturday’s winner to earn Bearcat-of-the-Week honours.
Matthew Bolduc (20, Val-d’Or) is another fourth-year leader. Following a season with Valleyfield in the QJHL, he suited up with his hometown Foreurs in 2023-2024. After a strong start with Truro last year, he found his season cut short due to injury. In his 29 Bearcat games, he was a leader with 12 goals and 16 assists. He returns healthy and determined to pick up where he left off.
The third Assistant Captain is defenceman Wyatt Countway (19, Brookfield). The 2023 Bearcat Territorial pick played part of two seasons with Steele Subaru before making his junior debut last year with the Bearcats. In his 51 games he grew his game quickly, taking a leadership role with a young defensive corp.
Truro enters the second week with a full slate of games. Thursday, the Yarmouth Mariners are at the RECC. Saturday, the Amherst Ramblers come to Truro, then Sunday, the Bearcats hit the road to play the West Kent Steamers, 6:00 pm in Bouctouche.
