November has looked good on the Bearcats.
Two wins on the weekend gave the team three in as many starts, all coming on the road. It’s all good.
Friday, in Berwick, the Bearcats earned their first win of the season against the Valley Wildcats. Valley was victorious in the previous two.
Truro’s leading scorer, Jake Todd, got things started, then the rookies took over. Rylan Sutherland, with his first goal of the season, and Nathan Curson, with the winner handled the rest of the scoring enroute to the 3-2 win.
Sunday, in Yarmouth, the Bearcats made it four wins in four head-to-head matchups against the Mariners.
The Bearcats took a two-goal lead into the third period, then exploded for three more in the third to take the 5-2 win.
It appeared the Mariners spent a bit too much time in the penalty box to craw back in. The Bearcats earned two powerplay goals.
The Bearcats kept things simple and close. Throw in strong goaltending and you have a recipe for success on the road.
Both goalies earned wins. Louca Connolly turned aside 36 of 38 shots directed his way in Berwick while Brandon Lavoie was equally stingy, turning aside 35 of 37 in Yarmouth.
The Bearcats bolstered the defensive corps with the addition of Jayden Connors (18, Toronto). This is his third season of Junior Hockey. In 2023-2024 he played with the St. Michael’s Buzzers (OJHL). Last year he played in three leagues, in the OJHL with the Buzzers, in the BCHL with the Prince George Spruce Kings, and in the OHL with the Sudbury Wolves. The right shot was acquired from the Wolves. He is also a commit to the University of New Hampshire NCAA club.
Eastlink South Standings were reshuffled a bit. Coming into this week, Summerside continues to sit atop the Division with 24 points. The Bearcats are second with 23, followed by Amherst (20), Pictou County and Yarmouth each with 18, and Valley bringing up the rear with 10.
The MHL announced last week that Yarmouth will host the League’s All-Star game on December 10, 7:30 – North vs South, winner take all.
The Bearcats will be in New Glasgow Thursday, to face the Crushers (7:30) Truro has won two of the three previous meetings.
Finally, the Bearcats get a chance to play back at the RECC this Saturday. Edmundston, the MHL’s reigning champs will be in town.
