The Truro Bearcats have acquired veteran forward Carter McCluskey as well as goaltenders Isaac Sparrow and Joey Hawco from the Grand Falls Rapids in exchange for Ben Diamond, Frederic Plourde, a 3rd round pick in the 2024 draft and future considerations.
McCluskey, a 19 year old forward from Grand Bay-Westfield, New Brunswick was originally a 6th round pick of South Shore before having his rights moved to Grand Falls. He started the 2020-21 season with the Rapids where he compiled 17 points in 12 games before being recalled to the Saint John Sea Dogs of the QMJHL for the rest of the year. He would split the 2021-22 season with the Sea Dogs and Cape Breton Eagles where he put up 20 points in 55 games.
Sparrow, a 18 year old goalie from Woodstock, New Brunswick was originally a 10th round pick of Amherst who most recently played with the Rothesay Netherwood School. He had 20 appearances, putting up a record of 9-8-3 with a 2.78 GAA as well as 3 shutouts.
Hawco, a 16 year old from Halifax was a 6th round pick of Grand Falls in the 2021 MHL draft. Last season with the Dartmouth Steele Subaru’s U18 team in 18 appearances he had a record of 13-4-0 with a 2.28 GAA and a .912 SV.
Diamond, a 20 year old forward from Strathroy, Ontario was acquired before the 2021-22 and was a key piece on our run to the Canadian Tire Cup Final. He was second in team scoring in the regular season with 33 points in 36 games and also added 9 points in 17 playoff games.
Plourde, a 20 year old from St.Leonard, New Brunswick played 2 full seasons in Truro, appearing in 23 games with a record of 11-11-1 with a 3.27 GAA and .900 SV.
