The Truro Bearcats have acquired 19-year-old forward Kelsey Ouellet from the reigning NOJHL champion Soo Thunderbirds in exchange for defenseman Tim Porter and future considerations.

Ouellet, from Geraldton, Ontario played his U18 hockey with the Kapuskasing Flyers AAA program before making the jump to the Soo Thunderbirds in the 2021-22 season. In his rookie season with the Soo, he put up 41 points in 48 games which was good enough for fourth in team scoring. In the playoffs he amassed 14 points in 15 games en route to a league championship and spot in the Centennial Cup, where he would score 2 points in 4 games.

Porter was a territorial selection of the Bearcats in the 2021 draft after a stellar season with the Weeks U18 Majors and would make the team out of camp for the 2021-22 season.  The Lower Onslow product had 4 points in 30 regular season games as well as 1 point in 15 playoff games on the team’s run to the Canadian Tire Cup Final.

The Bearcats would like to thank Porter for his contributions to the team last season and welcome Kelsey to Truro!
