Bearcat Bytes: James Beaton

#28 James Beaton
18-year-old Forward
Inverness, NS
5’10”, 165 lbs

Bearcat-of-the-Week honours went to rookie forward, James Beaton. In Thursday’s OT win in Pictou County, he scored fourteen seconds into the extra session. For sure this brought the Bearcat faithful to their feet and it was a reward for a rookie to be in that position so early in 3-on-3 play. He, fellow rookie, Andyn Furmidge and Ben Diamond, can be a handful.

He came up through the Cape Breton West Islanders program where he spent two seasons. His stats were decent but his compete level and 200-foot game were high each outing. He was the U18 most Improved Player his first season, followed by being named to the First AA-Star squad. The 2020 Bearcat pick brought to the team exactly what was expected.

BUSY TIME

School, practice, and games take a lot of time. The Bearcats are busy beyond that. It’s important to be part of the community. Recently, a number of Bearcats began working in the Truro Elementary School Breakfast Program on Mondays and Tuesdays. Again, this year the team has signed on to man the Salvation Army Kettles at the Truro Mall on the first three Tuesdays in December.
