Bearcat Bytes: #44 Jack McGovern

# 44 Jack McGovern
Dartmouth, NS
6’3”, 205 lbs.
19, Defence

Bearcat-of-the-Week honours went to third year defenceman, Jack McGovern. His steady play over the years is well recognized. This year, he’s assuming a role as mentor, with a pair of rookies on the defensive squad. That’s an added
responsibility and one he can handle.

He came up through the Dartmouth Whaler Program through to the Major Bantam level, picking up an All-Star berth his second season. Next up was a pair of seasons with the Dartmouth Major Midgets. In his first year he experienced Provincials and Atlantics and a trip to the Telus Cup Nationals. The Bearcats and Saint John Sea Dogs drafted him in June of 2016.

He cracked the Bearcat roster for the 2017-2018 season where he, and fellow rookie, Ryan Heffernan were named to the MHL All-Rookie team. Last year he grew his game and made four appearances with the Mooseheads who acquired his Major Junior rights in 2017. He was fortunate, as well to suit up with Team MHL South in the Eastern Canada Cup
Challenge. The big rear guard, with a coveted right shot, plays a strong defence-first game. He offensive flair will flourish.
