Truro’s lone game in week 3 was the rematch with the Pictou County Crushers.
The Bearcats were firing on all cylinders from the get-go. Rookie, Cedrick Laberge scored a pair in the opening period, making him the current scoring leader among MHL Rookies at this stage of the season.
Truro limited time and space based on its tenacious forecheck. The 6-1 final score was indicative of Bearcat dominance in this game.
Rookie goalie, Jordan Rittenberg made his MHL debut a successful one. The 18-year-old played a season with the Cole Harbour U18 Wolfpack before playing USHS-Prep hockey in Connecticut last year. The Halifax native was a 2024 Bearcat draft pick. The goaltending tandem of Connolly and Rittenberg looks solid.
Last week the CJHL Rankings listed teams to watch from the nine Junior “A” Leagues in the County. Out east, Truro, Valley and Chaleur were among those listed.
Truro’s only game this week will feature a meeting this Saturday at the RECC between the Bearcats and the Valley Wildcats, who come into this week with 5-0 and 4-1-0-1 records respectively. Coming into this week they are the top two teams in the MHL.
The Wildcats are led by veteran Drew Lutz (2), a fourth-year Junior from South Alton. After a rookie season with Rouyn-Noranda he’s been an offensive fixture with the Wildcats, picking up 115 points in 125 games with the club. He currently is tied with Edmundston’s Michael Arsenault for the MHL scoring lead.
October will see the Bearcats on the road for six of the nine games scheduled. The two remaining home dates are October 10 and October 23.
