The Truro Bearcats finished the last weekend of January with a win and a postponement.
Friday, at the RECC, the visiting Yarmouth Mariners brought their “A” game. They lost five of
the previous six against the Bearcats and really needed a win for a number of reasons.
As hard as they tried, it wasn’t to be. It was an exciting, well played game but the Bearcats came
out on top with a 3-2 SO victory.
Scoring for the Bearcats were Jake Todd with a powerplay goal and Antoine Fontaine, his first
since coming from the Mooseheads. Fontaine and Eli Baillargeon scored in the shootout. The
final regular season meeting with the Mariners is slated for Valentine’s Day in Yarmouth.
The postponed game with Valley has not been scheduled as yet.
This week the Bearcats travel to Pictou County on Thursday to face the Crushers. Truro has won
four of six against this rival.
The games have been close and spirited. The Bearcats have scored 21 goals with 18 Crusher
replies to date. They meet again, in Truro, Tuesday, February 10.
Standings in the Eastlink South Division get more interesting weekly. Summerside continues to
hold top spot with 60 points and at this time is the only MHL team to have clinched a playoff
spot. Truro is second with 57 points, followed by Amherst and Pictou County with 51 apiece.
Yarmouth and Valley bring up the rear with 36 and 22 points apiece.
All games are big games
