Bearcat Banter: The Real Season Begins

The Bearcats wrapped up the last weekend of their regular season with a loss in Amherst and a win in the Valley.

Saturday’s game in Amherst was a dandy from the get-go.  After a dead even first period, the Ramblers scored three to Truro’s one in the second, to account for the game’s scoring.

Both games played for keeps, with no healthy scratches.  For the season, each picked up four wins, all competitive games.  The 4-2 win had a playoff feel.

Sunday, in Berwick, the Bearcats set out most of their twenty-year-olds to rest up for what lies ahead.  It worked out well, with the Bearcats winning their sixth of the season against the Wildcats, a 7-3 verdict.

January acquisition, Jace Evans, led the way with a pair of goals, including the winner.  Call up Chace Munden (Steele Subaru) picked up his first MHL point, assisting on Julien Roy’s insurance goal.  Louca Connolly picked up the win.

At day’s end, the Bearcats finished the season with 72 points, tied with the Summerside Capitals.  The Capitals were declared first in the Division due to the regulation win tie-breaker over the Bearcats.

Successful leagues need parity.  This season was exceptional in that category.

In the South, behind Summerside and Truro, are Pictou County and Amherst with 67 and 65 points respectively.

In the North Division, Grand Falls finished up with 68 points apiece, followed by West Kent, Edmundston and Chaleur with 68 and 66 and 65 apiece.

The brackets are set.  Round I in the South has Summerside vs Amherst and Truro vs Pictou County.

In the North, it will be Grand Falls vs Chaleur and West Kent vs Edmundston.  All series are Best of Seven.

Playoffs get underway later this week.  Stay tuned.
