Bearcat Banter: Stay on script

Just call it a great Bearcat weekend — a pair of games and a pair of wins.

In Bridgewater last Friday, the Bearcats came from behind three times, then won it at the 19:59 mark of the final period.

From the get-go, it was a tight game. At the end of the day, the Bearcats will to win prevailed.

It was an emotional result for both teams and proof positive that every minute, or second, counts.

At the RECC, on Saturday, it appeared the Bearcats weren’t ready. Whether they were still on an emotional high from the previous night, or they were in awe of the size and experience of the visiting Valley Wildcats, they didn’t have a good start, except for the Bearcat goalie.

The Bearcats were outshot 14 -7 in the opening frame. Their goalie stood on his head to keep hopes alive.

In the second period, as if someone turned on a switch, the Bearcats took charge and were all over the visiting Wildcats like a dirty diaper.

It was quite a turnaround and showed that the current edition of Bearcats is tough to play against if they put their mind to it.

Picking up two wins against divisional rivals is a reason to celebrate. It was also an opportunity to celebrate a few firsts for this season.

That list includes: first road win, first short-handed goal, first powerplay goal, and first shutout. This sends a good message.
