Bearcat Banter: Start A New Run

The Truro Bearcats came out of last week with a split from the two road games.

In Pictou County last Thursday, the Bearcats scored a pair in the back half of the opening period to take a lead which they did not relinquish.

At the end of the day, it was an empty netter which gave the team the 5-3 win.  This was the fourth meeting of the season between the two rivals, each now possessing two wins.

If the shot count was accurate, the goalies faced a high 72 shots between them.  The stats show Truro’s netminder faced 42 of them.

The Bearcat attack as one by committee.  The goals came from five different players.  There really does not appear to be a go-to guy at this stage.

The win was the club’s fifth in a row.  That streak was a good one but it ended two nights later in Yarmouth.

The Bearcats opened the scoring in that game; however, the hometown Mariners did all the scoring the rest of the way en route

to a much needed 3-1 win.

Both of these two Divisional games were close and well played.  If fans want competitive hockey, that’s what they’re getting.

The Standings entering this week have Truro and Yarmouth tied with 15 points, one back of Valley, and two behind Pictou County.

There’s not much separating this group of four, making each game big.  Truro’s recent run was impressive, with a 7-2-0-1 record over the last ten games, second only to the MHL leading Edmundston Blizzard.

This week, the Bearcats prepare for a single weekend game, a home encounter with the Crushers.  The battle lines are already drawn for this fifth meeting.

The Bearcats then look forward to a November 22 home game against the Miramichi Timberwolves, then round out the month with three road games.

A couple of things to keep in mind:  Saturday’s game is Pink In The Rink Night.  Proceeds from the sale of Bearcat jerseys will go to the Maia the Mighty Legacy Fund.

The Annual Kinsmen Teddy Bear Toss is set for Sunday, December 1.  Apparently, there’s a good stock of Bears on the shelves, just saying.

Bearcat-of-the-Week honours go to Reese Allen.  The big guy scored the winner in the Crusher game, and Truro’s lone goal in Yarmouth.  A former Captain of the Sydney U-18 Rush, he split his rookie junior season between the Cornwall Colts (CCHL) and Miramichi, and last year between the Timberwolves and Bearcats.  He seems to have a knack for being in the right place.
