Bearcat Banter: Positive Midterm Report

The Bearcats returned from the far reaches of Northern New Brunswick with a pair of character wins.

For sure it was no easy task, especially when regulation time in each wasn’t enough.  What a great way to wrap up the first half of the schedule.

Friday, in Campbellton, the Bearcats scored the equalizer late in the second period.  Truro picked up the winner early in the OT.

Saturday, in Miramichi, a similar script played out except this one went to a shootout.  The Bearcats earned that one, as well.

Generally, teams on the road play a simple game, keep things close and follow the game plan.  If you stick to it, good things can happen.

Goaltending has been a strength to date.  This weekend, 72 shots were fired Truro’s way, all but two were turned aside.

Veteran leadership is a requirement.  This weekend, those expected to lead, did.

Players are expected to step up and chip it.  That was evident again this weekend.

The Bearcats are clearly playing a team game.  After going winless in the first eight games, the Bearcats enter this week with a 13-12-0-1 record, sitting fourth in the Division a point behind Pictou County with 3 games in hand, and showing a 0.519 win percentage.  Call it a turnaround half.

This week the Bearcats have a full slate of Divisional games.  First up is the trip to Summerside on Thursday to face the Capitals.

Summerside has won the three previous meetings and continues to occupy top spot in the south.  Hats off to forward Brett Arsenault for being named to the Canada East squad.

Saturday, the Bearcats host the Crushers, each with three wins in six outings.  Is there really anything more to say about this game and rivalry?

Sunday, the team heads to Amherst for a 2:00 game.  The Bearcats have won two of the three meetings with the second place Ramblers.

Truro wraps up its pre-Christmas schedule with a home game Wednesday, December 18.
