Bearcat Banter: Need A Run

The race for playoff positions is well under way.  This guarantees there will be no easy games.

Sometimes there will be no easy scheduling.  The Bearcats have just finished a stretch of four games over five days.

The schedule is what it is and most teams will experience similar schedule demands.  The Bearcats will live with the three losses and lone victory.

Wednesday (January 15) the Bearcats and Amherst Ramblers played on the heels of a Bearcat win in Amherst the previous weekend.

Obviously, the Ramblers were on a mission, winning a tight 3-1 win, to tie the head-to-head matchups at three games-apiece.  The Bearcats host them twice in February.

On Thursday (January 16) the Bearcats were in Summerside.  The Capitals opened the game with a pair of powerplay goals.

The effort was there but the Bearcats were unable to fully close the gap in the 4-2 loss.  The Capitals have won all five meetings to date, with three remaining.

The Bearcats were in Edmundston Saturday (January 18) to meet the MHL’s top team.  Truro tied things up early in the second before the Blizzard unloaded with five unanswered to take the 7-2 win, their second this season.

The Bearcats wrapped up the week Sunday afternoon in Grand Falls with a 3-2 win over the Rapids.  All the scoring was restricted to the third period.

Well, that week is in the books, and behind them.  This week there’s a bit of breathing room.

First up is the Wednesday (January 22) game at the RECC against Yarmouth.  Truro has won three of the previous four meetings.

Saturday (January 23), The Fredericton Red Wings face Truro for the first time this season.  The North’s last place team may relish the role of spoiler.

The night is designated Sock Toss Night.  All socks tossed will go in support of the Homeless Shelter.

Sunday, the Bearcats host the Campbellton Tigers.  Truro defeated the North’s second place team in December.

Bearcat-of-the-Week honours went to Eli Baillargeon.  In his five games since becoming a Bearcat, he’s proven to be an impact player.  He’s picked up 2 goals and 2 assists to date and has been used in all situations.  He’s played the last three seasons with the Shawinigan Cataractes.  Truro acquired his rights from Grand Falls.
