The Summerside Capitals and Edmundston Blizzard came to town undefeated and left the same way.
The Truro Bearcats did place some doubt in their opposition’s mind, but not enough over a long enough stretch to pick up wins.
Saturday, the Bearcats opened strong and took a two-goal lead into the late minutes of the first period only to see it evaporate.
In three minutes, the Capitals scored three and never looked back in route to a 6-3 win. Truro closed out the game’s scoring, but it was too little too late.
Strong teams can adjust on the fly. A relentless attack can generate lapses, then pounce.
For stretches, the Bearcats showed they could play with the Divisional leader but not enough, at this time, for sustained lengths of time.
Sunday, the Edmundston Blizzard and Bearcats battled straight up for a scoreless opening period. Shots on net weren’t indicative of play.
Truro scored first in the second frame but again fell victim to a bunch of goals in no time at all. As in the Capital’s game, there was hardly a pretty goal in the mix—final score 4-2.
From this corner, the opening period was Truro’s strongest of the season. The team played with composure, pressured well and won races to the puck. That can be shattered with a shortage of puck luck here and there.
The special team effort was good for the weekend. Truro scored two on seven opportunities . The Penalty Kill allowed none on five chances.
There were plenty of positives along the way and its clear team play is moving in the right direction.
This week the Bearcats are off to New Glasgow to face the Crushers, Thursday at 7:00 pm. Pictou County enters the week fifth in the South Division with three wins in seven outings.
Yarmouth sits fourth with seven points in eight games. This will be the first meeting of the season for the Mariners and Bearcats. That game is set for Sunday, at 4:00 pm at the RECC.

Bearcat-of-the-Week honours went to rookie forward Elliott Mullen whose powerplay goal was his first MHL tally. He and linemates Liam Welsh and Kevin Walker
played strong as a unit in both weekend games. Truro’s 2024 Territorial pick played two very productive years with the Truro Bearcats U-15 squad before spending last year with the Mississauga U-16 Senators.
