The Truro Bearcats entered November the same way they ended October. They continued to impress.
Saturday, the Bearcats picked up their second win of the season against the Valley Wildcats. After four meetings they sit with a pair of wins apiece.
In that one, both teams were careless in their own end in the opening period but each escaped with little harm.
Things clearly picked up after the first intermission, each scoring one. The final period belonged to the Bearcats.
They scored three, including a shorthand empty-netter, en route to a 4-1 win. Going to the net and being alert paid off. Not often do you see three unassisted goals in the course of a game.
Sunday, the Bearcats were down two before they hit the scoresheet. They owned the Ramblers in the final period, scoring three to record a 3-2 win, and even the head-to-head record at one apiece. By the way, it was a dramatic finish.
For sure you can’t depend on an offensive outburst in the final period of games, but it does indicate that the Bearcats can hang around for the long haul in each outing.
From this corner, these were key Divisional games for a team looking to move ahead. Being more difficult to play against looks good on the Bearcats.
Coming into this week, the Eastlink South Standings have Truro and Yarmouth each with 13 points, but the Bearcats are fifth due to win percentage. Persistence is great and the record over the last ten games shows it.
Pictou County and the Wildcats are just three points up on them. We have a race now.
This week the Bearcats are in Pictou County to face the Crushers on Thursday. This is their fourth meeting of the season, with the Crushers winners in two of the previous games.
Saturday the Bearcats hit the road again, this time to Yarmouth. The Mariners fell to the Bearcats twice this season.
First notice, the Bible Hill Kinsmen Annual Teddy Bear Toss is scheduled for Sunday December 1st. All teddy bears will be forwarded to the Christmas Index. Please take part.
Bearcat-of-the-Week honours go to goalie, Alexis Cournoyer, who backstopped the Bearcats in both games, stopping 50 of 53 shots directed his way, and picking up an assist in the Valley game. The 2021 Shawinigan
draft pick came up through the Trois-Rivieres Estacades U-18 program. After 13 games with the College Lafleche Dragons (QCHL) last year, he joined the Bearcats, playing 13 and compiling a 3.04 GAA and .906 Save Percentage. He’s picked up three of Truro’s six wins this year.
