The best way to recover from a three-game losing skid is to generate a three-game winning streak.
The Truro Bearcats did just that over the weekend and find themselves sharing top spot in the Eastlink South with the Summerside Capitals with 66 points apiece.
Last Thursday, Truro picked up their fifth win of the season against the Capitals. It was a fast, close game with a little of everything thrown in.
Callum Aucoin and Jake Todd did the scoring while Sam Berthiaume turned aside 23 of 24 shots for the 2-1 home win.
Saturday, Berthiaume earned his second shutout of the season as the Bearcats defeated the West Kent Steamers 2-0. Todd and Liam Welsh looked after the scoring. The Bearcats and Steamers have a win apiece in their season meetings.
Sunday, in Berwick, Truro scored five unanswered goals to pick up their second shutout in two games. Louca Connolly picked up his second shutout of the season.
Antoine Fontaine led the way with a goal and assist, while rookie defenceman, Matthew Merryweather recorded his first MHL goal. Jake Todd added a pair of assists, earning him five points for the weekend.
While the Bearcats and Capitals are currently at the top of their Division, the Crushers and Ramblers are close behind with 62 and 61 points respectively.
The regular season ends on Sunday, March 8. It may very well take until then for the final spots to be determined.
The Bearcats have four games remaining. Thursday, the Ramblers are at the RECC. Each has three wins to date, and it goes without saying this is a big game for both. They meet again in March.
Saturday, the Valley Wildcats are in town. Truro has won four of the six meetings between the two. They meet again in March to conclude regular season play.
Just keep winning is a good plan.
