Bearcat Banter: First Quarter Finishes Strong

Could the Truro Bearcats have found a better way to close out their October schedule. No, not
really.
Over the last two weekends the club garnered seven of the eight points up for grabs, with a win
over Pictou County, a SOL to Summerside and Saturday’s win over Valley. That was a
successful homestand.
They capped it off with a convincing win over the Mariners, in Yarmouth. That was sweet.
They’ve put themselves in a good position, getting the attention of all other franchises in the
MHL, and showing Bearcat fans that they are a determined group obsessed with getting better.
Saturday’s game against the Wildcats opened slowly, with the teams trading rushes. Both clubs
turned up the dial giving fans a very competitive game over the final two periods.
There’s nothing like an empty-netter to take the wind out of the sails. The Bearcats picked up
their first win in three outings with the Wildcats.
Sunday afternoon, the Bearcats took an early lead and never looked back en route to the 6-1 win
over Yarmouth, their second in as many meetings.
Six different players scored in that win, all goals even strength. It was a very solid outing, with
the three-goal outburst in the final period quelling any Mariner pushback.
In both weekend games, the Truro goaltending did its job, giving the team the chance to win.
The skaters complimented that effort with strong team play.
It takes time to develop a team identity. With so many players new to the program, it may have
taken longer.
The goal now is to continue growth and play with consistency. This will be the ongoing
challenge.
The Bearcats open November with a pair of home games. Saturday, the Valley Wildcats are at the

RECC, and Sunday, the Amherst Ramblers are in town for a 4:00 pm start.
The Ramblers won their only game with Truro, a home victory back in September. They
currently sit second in the South Division, third overall in the MHL.
Excitement is building.

Bearcat-of-the-Week honours went to defenceman, Philippe Fauchon, who opened the scoring
in the 3-1 win over Valley, then picked up the winner in the Yarmouth game. His defensive play
and leadership from the back end is noticeable in all games. He spent the last three seasons with
the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada. That experience is showing up big time. The Assistant
Captain has picked up 3 goals and 5 assists in his first 14 Bearcat games.
