When you get into Overtime, you never come away empty-handed.
The Bearcats opened October with a pair of such games, coming up short at home against Amherst on Thursday, then winning on the road in Yarmouth the following night.
The Rambler-Bearcat game was a dandy. It was close, tight and physical from the get-go.
The Ramblers got on the board midway through the second, only to see the Bearcats force OT midway through the third. Three minutes into OT, the Ramblers took the 2-1 win.
In Yarmouth the Mariners took a 3-1 lead into the final period. In the dying seconds, Truro tied it up, then won it in OT, 4-3.
That big goal by defenceman Ben Lindsay (18, Middle Sackville) was his first MHL goal in his two years, but it was a big one. In his two U-18 seasons with Cole Harbour and Halifax, he displayed an offensive flair. As a rookie, last year he earned his junior strips on a defensive corps with one returnee. He was a 2023 draft choice of Pictou County and Moncton Wildcats.
The line of Jake Todd, Callum Aucoin and Drew Keiver accounted for all other Bearcat scoring in those two games. Team stats show them leading the team with 13, 11 and 10 points respectively – that production.
A trio of U-18 call-ups got an opportunity to fill vacant roster spots. Defenceman, Logan Trewin (17, Halifax), a 2024 Bearcat pick, up from Halifax McDonalds; defenceman, Tyler Sullivan (16, Shortt’s Lake), a 2025 Territorial, up from Weeks; and forward River Welsh (16, Halifax), a 2025 Bearcat pick, up from Halifax McDonalds.
Coming into Week Five, the Eastlink South Standings have Summerside and Truro occupying top spot with 13 points apiece, followed by Pictou County (9), Amherst (7), Yarmouth (6) and Valley (2).
This week, the Bearcats hit the road for a pair of games before returning to the RECC on Sunday.
Thursday, Truro makes their first trip to Pictou County to face the Crushers. The Bearcats won the first two meetings.
Friday, the Bearcats are in the Valley for the first meeting of the season with the Wildcats.
Sunday, Summerside is in town. The Bearcats lost a close one to the Capitals last month.
