The Bearcat wait is over. Their opponent in the Eastlink South Divisional Final will be the Summerside Western Capitals.
It’s only fitting the top two teams in the Division get to square off in the best-of-seven to determine who moves on to the MHL Championship Round.
Truro won five of the eight regular season games. Each ended with 72 points but the Capitals get the home ice advantage due to having more regulation wins over the course of the season.
There is playoff history between the two, with MHL Championship series in 2007, 2009, 2013 and 2022. But this will be their first for a Divisional crown.
In any series, goaltending plays a huge role. The Bearcats tandem of Louca Connolly and Sam Berthiaume were this year’s Young-Knickle Award winners for the 2025-2026 season. Connolly was a MHL All-Star, while Berthiaume was a Rookie All-Star team member.
Berthiaume played all five games in the Round against the Pictou County Crushers, compiling an impressive 1.31 GAA, 4-1 record and 0.921 Save Percentage.
For the Capitals, Kolton Bourret put together a 4-1-1 record in his six appearances against Amherst. Justin Robinson took a loss in his only start.
Offensively, the Capitals were the highest scoring team, picking up 232 goals. Leading the way were defenceman Simon Mullen (14 + 54), Brett Arsenault (25+ 34) and Elliott Robert (22+ 26). Elliott Mullen added 24 goals and 15 assists in his 34 games and led the club with 5 goals in the first round.
On the Bearcat side, Jake Todd (16+42), Eli Baillargeon (30+24), Callum Aucoin (27+19) and Liam Welsh (16+27) carried a big load. In five playoff games Aucoin (6+2) and Antoine Fontaine (4+1) played huge roles.
It will be an interesting final series. Special Team play, attitude and composure will be tested.
Game One is scheduled for Thursday, April 2 in Summerside. Game Two will be played Saturday in Truro. All games have a 7:00 pm start.
