Bearcat Banter: Bring On December

Meatloaf would have been pleased with the results of Bearcat games played last week.

Winning two of their three outings kept the Bearcats moving in the right direction.  Over the last ten games the Bearcats record is a significant 7-3-0-0 and they sit alone in fourth place one point behind Pictou County.

Thursday in New Glasgow, Truro got out of the gate quickly, building a three-goal lead before squandering it.

That’s right, the hometown Crushers came all the way back to take a 4-3 win, evening up their meetings to date at three games apiece.  This was a missed opportunity.

The Bearcats bounced back the next night in Valley, again building a three-goal lead but this time they made it stick en route to a 3-0 shutout win, their third win in five meetings.

For sure, the Wildcats have struggled lately, losing their last eleven coming into this week.  The truth is, no team feels sorry for any other in this league.

Sunday afternoon, the Bearcats and Mariners’ fourth head-to-head matchup saw the Bearcats pick up their third victory.

Once again, the Bearcats started quickly scoring four before the Mariners got on the board.  The final result was a 4-2 victory.

The Bearcats, faced with having three goaltenders, opted to trade Frederic Cousineau to Edmundston for a pair of draft picks.  The organization thanks him for his efforts and wish him well going forward.

This week the Bearcats are travelling north to face the Campbellton Tigers on Friday, then meet the Timberwolves in Miramichi on Saturday.

Both teams are in the thick of things in the Eastlink North Division, with the Tigers in third spot with 29 points while the Timberwolves are a point back in fourth.  This overnighter traditionally is gruelling and demanding.

Hats off to the Bearcats fans who participated in the Annual Kinsmen Teddy Bear Toss.  For sure this gesture will bring happiness to many come Christmas time.

This year marks the 14th season that the Bearcats will have manned the Salvation Army Kettles.  Players will be participating on Tuesdays (3rd, 10th, 17th) at the Truro Walmart.
