Bearcat Banter: Another Great Start

November’s winning ways have continued straight into December.

The Bearcats played two and came away winners in both, running the win streak to twelve in a row, nine of them road wins.

Friday at home, there was plenty to cheer about.  The pre-game acknowledgement of the contribution of Shawn Evans to the Bearcat Program was awesome.  From 2002-2023 he did it all and deserved to have his name raised to the roof.

It was good for both teams, none of whom were born at the start of his run, to hear about commitment and respect.

From the get-go it was clear the Miramichi Timberwolves were here to play.  After an even first the Bearcats took a two-goal lead in the second en route to a 4-2 win.  It was well earned.

Saturday, in Amherst, the Bearcats tied things up in the second and made Nathan Curson’s third period goal stand, for the 2-1 victory.

Truro outshot the Ramblers 61-32.  Amherst penalties accounted for the extra dose of shots, but their goalie kept things close.

In many ways, the Bearcats kept at the top of their game.  They bent at times but did not break.

While the goalies did their job, the shooters scored timely goals.  Special team play was positive, with two goals on eight chances and the penalty kill turned aside five opportunities.

Hats off to Bearcat goalie, Louca Connolly, for being named MHL goalie for November.  His 6-0-0 record, 1.97 GAA and .927 Save Percentage speak volumes for his ability to give his teammates the chance to win.

Connolly, Jayden Connors, Jake Todd and Tristan St-Gelais travel to Yarmouth Wednesday to play for the Eastlink South team in the All-Star game.  The team is well represented.

CJHL Ranking in the past two weeks had designated the Bearcats Honourable Mention.  From this corner, their play may deserve more.

The Bearcats enter the week tied with Summerside, each with 41 points.  The Bearcats and Capitals meet twice this week, with plenty at stake.

Thursday, the Capitals are in Truro, then Saturday, the Bearcats are in Summerside.  The Bearcats are at home again Sunday when they host the Valley Wildcats.  All three start at 7:00 pm.
