2019 Draft Class

The Truro Bearcats selected eight players at the 2019 MHL Draft in Edmundston, New Brunswick on June 15th; including two Territorial Selections made on the 10th of June. Here’s our first look at each selection from Saturday’s Midget Draft:

 

Round 1, Pick 6 overall – Keiran Gallant

The Bearcats first selection of the 2019 Draft was forward Keiran Gallant of the Kensington Wild (Midget AAA). Gallant, a native of Covehead, PE, was a 2018 selection of the Charlottetown Islanders in the QMJHL Draft. Last season the 17-year-old amassed 41 points in 35 games for the Wild.

Round 2, Pick 18 overall – Lucas Parsons

The second selection of the Bearcats on Saturday was forward Lucas Parsons of the Kensington Wild (Midget AAA). The 17-year-old Parsons scored 17 goals last season for the Wild; adding 14 assists in 33 games. Lucas captured the Bantam “AAA” Championship with the Eastern Express in 2017, scoring 42 points in 30 games that season.

Territorial 1 (Pick 30 overall) – Tanner Greatorex

As part of Territorial Selections on June 10th the Bearcats selected Truro native Tanner Greatorex. The defenceman notched 14 points playing for the Weeks Midgets last season, and also suited up for Team Nova Scotia at the Canada Winter Games. Tanner spent two seasons with the Truro Major Bantams before entering midget; he is a selection of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in the 2019 QMJHL Draft.

Territorial 2 (Pick 54 overall) – Sam Archibald

Truro News

With their second Territorial Selection the Bearcats selected forward Sam Archibald of Debert. Sam spent last season with the Weeks Midgets. The 15-year-old put up 30 points in 36 major midget games, also suiting up for Team Nova Scotia at the Canada Winter Games. Sam was drafted by Charlottetown in the 2019 QMJHL Draft.

Round 4, Pick 66 overall – Dylan MacLeod

The Bearcats selected defenceman Dylan MacLeod of the Cape Breton Tradesmen (Midget AAA). The 18-year-old posted 22 points in 36 games last season, and was the top point producer among defencemen in the 2015-16 major bantam season.

Round 6, Pick 90 overall – Ben Gray

17-year-old Defenceman Ben Gray was the Bearcats 6th round selection at the 2019 Draft. Gray suited up for the Dartmouth Major Midgets last season where he scored 6 points and added 2 in the playoffs.

Round 7, Pick 102 overall – Sam Gallant

The Bearcats selected forward Sam Gallant of the Dartmouth Major Midgets with their 5th pick of the day on Saturday. The 17-year-old Gallant registered a point per game last season scoring 24 in 24.

Round 8, Pick 114 overall – Zach Welsh

Rounding out the Bearcats selections at the 2019 MHL Draft was defenceman Zach Welsh of the Halifax Macs (Midget AAA). The 15-year-old scored 19 points in 34 games with the Macs last season. Welsh was selected 33rd overall by Cape Breton in the 2019 QMJHL Draft.
