#60 Matt Forslund

Bearcat-of-the-Week honours went to first year Bearcat, Matt Forslund. In his first MHL start, he gave his teammates the opportunity to win. He turned aside 38 of 41 shots directed his way only to see the Bearcats come up short in the Shootout. Being named the game’s First Star was fitting. Since coming to the Bearcats, he’s worked hard, been patient and  learned from his veteran mentor, Jason Rioux. In his first opportunity to make a good impression he succeeded.

He got his hockey start in the Raleigh Youth Hockey League as a forward before making the switch to the crease. For the last two seasons, he’s played in the U.S. Premier Hockey League, first with the East Coast Eagles, then with the Carolina Eagles. In both years, his Goals Against Average was well below the 3:00 mark. He considers the MHL a major step up, meaning there’s plenty to learn. Step one was seeking a tryout, then making the most of it. If there were questions about the Bearcat tandem, they’ve been answered.

2016 MHL SHOWCASE

Thanks are extended to the volunteers who helped throughout this event. Hats off to the individuals and teams (Brookfield Junior “B” Elks and Truro Major Bantam Bearcats) for their efforts over the three day event. The Staff at both the RECC and Stadium did a great job.
