Jarrod Shipley
Saint John, NB
5'11", 205 lbs
17, Defenceman

Bearcat-of- the-Week honours went to second year defenceman, Jarrod Shipley. In Truro’s lone game last week, a 4-1 win in Pictou County, he made a significant offensive contribution which demonstrated a higher degree of confidence and reliability. He assisted on the opening goal, scored the winner on the power play and assisted on the insurance marker. Being named First Star in the game was a given.

He got his hockey start in the Saint John Minor Flames Program working his way through the ranks to the Bantam AAA Sea Dogs for a two year stay. Next up was two years with the Midget Vitos where he experienced championship play at Provincials and Atlantics. He was a 2014 draft choice by Truro and the Rimouski Oceanic. His QMJHL rights were acquired by Drummondville where he gained exposure in three games in the 2014-2015 season. Last year as a Bearcat rookie, he suited up for 35 games while learning the junior game. He’s kept his game simple with strong physical play.

All twelve MHL teams are in town this weekend for the Showcase. Games are slated for the RECC and Stadium over the three days (Oct.9 – Oct.11). Bearcat ticket holders can attend all twelve games with their season pass. Others may purchase a Showcase Pass (30.00) or purchase a $5.00 game ticket. Minor Hockey Players wearing their jersey enter games free.

Tonight the Bearcats are in Bridgewater for their first meeting of the season with the South Shore Lumberjacks (7:00 pm).

The Bearcats’ two games in the MHL Showcase will see them play the Lumberjacks, 7:30, on Sunday, then square off against the Pictou Crushers Monday afternoon at 3:30 pm.
