Check the roster

The numbers have been reduced and the process of putting together a winning combination continues.

Thatís the game plan with the Bearcats and all other teams within the MHL. It makes for interesting times.

For the prospective Bearcats still in camp, the competition for available roster spots gets more intense. Thatís a good thing.

Upcoming exhibition games will further help determine who will be retained and who will be around to start regular play wearing the Bearcat logo. The desire to be included in that number is high.

Tonight, the Bearcats hit the ice in New Glasgow to face the Crushers (7:00 pm). The two meet again Saturday at the RECC (7:00 pm).

Hockey fans expect to see major changes in rosters. This season, unlike most, they will have to adjust to changes made regarding those who man the bench.

Coach Evans returns for his fifteenth season. Three League Championships, a Fred Page Cup Championship and a consistent record of icing competitive teams best describe his contribution to the Bearcat effort.

Jamie Barbour returns for his eighth season as Assistant Coach. Heís recently been named Assistant General Manager.

Gone is Troy Fougere, who spent most of the last nineteen years as Assistant Coach. The Bearcat organization thanks him for his dedication and wish him the very best as he assumes the Head Coaching position with the Major Bantam Bearcats.

Coming aboard as Assistant Coaches are former Bearcats, Joel Isenor (2000-2003) and TJ Smith (2004-2007). Both bring plenty to the table.

Isenor, a former Bearcat Captain, has coached the East Hants Junior B Penguins for the last six years, being named Coach-of- the-Year in 2010/2011. As a player, he was noted as a fierce competitor.

Smith was an Assistant Coach with the Bearcats during the 2008-2009 season, and last year served as General Manager and Head Coach of the Yarmouth Mariners. As a player, he was a prolific scorer.

The excitement is just beginning.
