Season's Greetings

December 22, 2016
By Gerry Hale

The Truro Bearcats extended their home game win streak to seven.

Thatís a great way to end 2016 play. Home victories keep a team afloat when the road ship lists.

The Bearcats got a great start and didnít give the visiting Valley Wildcats too many opportunities.

It was a game where everyone contributed to the win. Truro got plenty of goals but its goaltending was the backbone of the victory.

The Bearcats stood their ground against a frustrated hockey team. Teams have to learn to take a loss and move on.

Same thing happened two weeks ago. A team loses a close one, then fails to respect the victor. Itís all about maturity.

The Bearcats enter the Christmas Break dead even with the Amherst Ramblers in third place.

Six points separate first and fourth with plenty of time to re-shuffle the Standings. With four teams fully in the mix, supporters should have plenty of competition ahead.

The Bearcats reached the mid-point of their season two weeks ago. Management has no complaints.

For a number of reasons, this edition of Bearcats is a brand new team. Inconsistency is an off-spring of that.

With a 17 Ė 9 record, a strong possibility of playoff action and the opportunity to improve in the Standings, the team is in good shape.

The team is gelling but remains capable of departing from what works by time. Thatís the nature of junior hockey.

The return of two third year juniors will give the team needed depth and insured competition for playing time. Thatís a plus as well.

Special team perfection is a goal but that process is slow. Itís getting better and will continue to be a focal point.

For now, the MHL is shut down until the New Year. For all involved, itís a well deserved opportunity to reflect.

The Bearcats wish all a safe and happy holiday season as they await the return of junior hockey at the RECC, January 7, 2017.
